1964–65 Stoke City F.C. season
The 1964–65 season was Stoke's 65th season of league football and the 34th in the First Division.
Overview
Stoke's aims for the 1964–65 season was to again consolidation in the First Division. There were a number of critics over manager Tony Waddington with his decision to sign a number of veteran's meaning that Stoke had a older squad than most in the League. However it was young striker John Ritchie who was grabbing all the headlines as he scored 25 league goals including four against his future club, Sheffield Wednesday. Stoke also brought in Maurice Setters, Roy Vernon and Harry Burrows. Stanley Matthews called time on his famous career with a 3–1 win over Fulham on the 6 February 1965. Stoke finished in a safe position of eleventh.
